Doreen Baxter..

I came across this picture. It is from the cover of a book of
Grimm's Fairy Tales, illustrated by
Doreen Baxter.
To me this is the very epitome of fairy, magical  pictures.
I wish I could draw and paint like this.. She illustrated another Fairytale book but the picture I found was too small to reproduce. This book was published in the 50's. I've tried to find out a bit more about her. She is/was English and that's about all I know. I do know a very few copies of her books are being sold on ebay and in some collector book shops at very expensive prices!

I find it sad that such a beautiful illustrator as Doreen is not remembered more.
If anyone has any more info, I'd be very glad to hear it.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

I agree 100%. That picture is the epitome of fairytale beauty. I would love to see an entire book illustrated by her.

I also love Doreen's work, she is amazing! i actually own two books illistrated by her, one with the front cover being the picture you posted. I wasn't aware her books were scarce. I too have been trying to find information on her but there really isn't much out there which is sad.

Hi,

I knew Doreen Baxter.
She was a very good friend of my Aunt's. She was a magical lady. My Aunt owns a lot of her original works.

She lived in Pietermatizburg, South Africa. Sadly she passed away when I was younger, but I have the most wonderful memories of her. We always called her a "Real living fairy."

Although I write this years after the last comments, still the comments and stories are so special and sparklingly honor the memory of Miss Doreen Baxter. It is so encouraging that there are kindred spirits out there!
