I've been reading about the work of Hannah More.
Born near Bristol in 1745, it was obvious even as a child, that she was a natural scholar.
Once grown up, she soon became a successful writer but was equally keen to use her gifts to help others, which is why her name has lived on as a philanthropist, evangelist and pioneer of Sunday schools.
With such a record, it is perhaps not so remarkable that Hannah was once quoted as observing that..
'Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.'
A remark to remember when our own goals seem impossibly hard to reach.
