Collections

Dear Cindy over at I owe it all to Him has a Link party this weekend
about our Collections
I have been a magpie all my life and when I think about it I have many collections.
Books, Boxes, Buddhas, Rings (don't ask me how many I have, that's a whole different story.
I love gemstones.My daughter's legacy!)
and China......
What with my own handpainted china hanging on walls and standing on stands I have a large collection of Buddhas. I started collecting these when quite young, some are antique, like the green Vaseline glass one, and some I have had for 45 years.
The Chinese Famille Rose collection is another I've had for ever....

These are  about 12 inches tall and I bought them 35 years ago.
I call them Nelson and Emma!

Just a couple of my Royal Worcester ladies, I have 10 now.
At the front is an Ostrich egg I decorated. When opened it is lined with blue silk.
The small sitting couple I gave my mother 30 years ago and after she passed
I kept most of the ornaments I had given her. The rest went to family.

Yes, quite a lot to dust but they all have special memories. Where I was and what I was doing at the time I bought them. Some bought for me and I think of the person who gave it.
Some bring back a special song or person and I could never part with.
I still have the elephant my daughter bought me with her first weeks wages!

'Lay not up for yourselves treasure on earth.......'
None of these things have monetary worth to me, just old memories to an old lady.

Dearest June, I am feeling a bit better, thank you so much.
I love your figurines!!!
I used to have so many..they are given as gifts at Italian weddings..but I left them all behind with my first 30yr marriage..
Now I only have a few but they are very special to me because I found and brought them for myself. Bless you..CML xx

Oh my gosh, June--you have outdone yourself--this is fantastic and amazing!!! I totally agree with you that things we own are tied to our memories and that is what makes them so dear...It's not monetary--it's our emotional connection to them...

Coming here to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, I moved into an area the most devastated by the storm...the entire neighborhood was under water and nothing was saved...People didn't even know how to come to grips with it...and yet, the biggest thing they have said over and over again to me is, "We have our lives...that is the blessing."
Isn't that something? It is a testimony of faith.

These collections of yours are so beautiful and also beautifully filled with memories which I feel mean more to us the older we get...they are a way of preserving our past...I love seeing all your memories!
Love,
Cindy

Hi June,
I'm back again...I just read your comment about the angel globe that played Amazing Grace...What's unbelievable is that I had gone through a terrible loss years ago and my girlfriend bought me an angel globe that plays Amazing Grace...I wonder if it's exactly the same...wouldn't that be amazing?
Love,
Cindy

Gorgeous collections, June. I have a lot of depression glass and hand painted things that were my mothers that I keep in my china cabinet. Having her things that she collected make me feel happy. I love your Emma and Nelson.

I love Oriental figurines and art of every kind. You have such a wonderful collection. I collect something a little strange - moose. They are so big and funny looking that I just love them.

It's me again, June. We also have more in common. I have collected netsukes for years and I also collect other oriental items from folded screens to huge ginger jars and Japanese mud men. I love all things oriental and make many cards using this theme.
