Our link this weekend to Cindy over at I owe it all to Him (see sidebar) calls for our favourite song.
Oh dear...what a choice to make. Back in the day, for many years I travelled all over our County for singing engagements, parties etc. I used to take along my own organ, singing mostly old standards, C&W and songs I had written for myself.
Last year I completed another Altered Book, called 'All of a sudden my heart sings'. I filled it with 68 pages of just some of my favourite songs and it still gives me great pleasure to look at again and again and brings back such memories.
So randomly picking just one song from my favourites.....I choose
My Dearest Dear.
This has special memories for me as I used to duet with my cousin Daisy.
She has been gone some time now and had a beautiful soprano voice.
With me singing alto I think this really is my favourite song.

I am not familiar with the song. I will try to find it and listen. Lucky you to have the gift of singing.

This is such a gorgeous piece of art, June. I didn't realize that you are a vocalist and writer as well as artist. Wow, girl, you've got lots of talents. I wish I could have heard you sing your own songs. That is so very special. Thanks for sharing with us.
Oh June,
This picture is absolutely exquisite!!! And the lyrics are amazing too!!! I am so glad you shared this with us..it is too precious for words.
I hope you have a beautiful weekend!
Love,
Cindy
hmmm, for some reason the lyrics didn't show--I will have to go back and see if they come up. I haven't heard this song. We are under a thunderstorm right now and my computer is acting up---I think it is the storm!!
Well I found 2 versions at youtube. One was a bluegrass version and another one was more opera like. So I still don't know which one!
Hi June,
I'm loving all your art!!! I just saw your post..lol
i'm not familiar with the song but i can certainly hear your heart! music has obviously held a special place in your life...your art is especially fitting!
This was written by Ivor Novello and was featured in The Dancing Years about 1939 (I think!)
I have found some videos of sopranos singing this on line but I'm afraid I don't know how to add the link.
Hugs
June xx
